CHANGE 'Gon Come

Simply Awesome!!!I don’t know how else to describe the Obama’s! I watched Michelle Obama’s speech at the DNC this week and Barack’s speech. I now have a new view on government and politics because of these two. Yesterday night, Barack Obama accepted the nomination for democratic nominee of the 2008 election. It almost brought me to tears seriously. America has come along way, and still has a way to go but I think were getting there. I am with Obama not only because of the way that they address the common working folks of America, such as myself, but also the way both speak with such eloquence and understanding. Like Barack said in his speech, McCain “Just doesn’t get it”.

As a young citizen of the U.S., it’s appealing to me that the Obama’s are educated black people, who were not raised with a silver spoon. And know what is to struggle and what is to do well too. I love how Michelle Obama spoke about her husband working in the community and how he has compassion for the people. Michelle Obama has such class and elegance about her. She is definitely going to make a wonderful first lady. You simply can’t get any better!

I think that the JFK, MLK and all others who fought so that this day would come would be proud of Obama. Change is needed. If you don’t agree you might want to wake up from the dream world you’re living in.

Sike Saturday

Last night, I got a chance to preview the new fall stuff from Sike Stlye’s clothing line Sikenomics. For those of you who aren’t familiar with who Sike Style’s is, he’s about the awesome-est graphic designer, clothing designer, and DJ that I’ve seen ever. I was first introduced to the clothing line at a store called Phenom and my fiancee’who knew of Sike’s work. I fell in love with the futuristic unique concepts, bright blues, pinks, purples and ornate designs immediately.

This weekend at Sike’s Fall Release Party, a cool shindig thrown to show off his new shirt designs. His theme for the fall line "The Future Ain’t What It" used to be was placed on shirts and throughout the psychedelic screen presentation he had running the entire time.

Walking in you immediately notice the four screens set up in the front of the room with the DJ, DJ Sku looping back and forth with animation’s, pictures of models in his T-shirts, some with the ever popular, "Tell em why you mad son" phrase on it and Hip Hop is not a crime.

DJ Sku & Tactic set the atmosphere for the small crowd, doing a eclectic mix of everything from eighties hits like Prince & Michael Jackson to Rhianna and even some Arrested Development.

I was definitely digging, the scene not to mention I spotted two of my favorite local writers Ms. Jenee’ Osterheldt and Ms. Pamela Spencer, even though I was too shy to introduce myself. I also purchased my first Sikenomics shirt, which I know will look hot with these new skinny jeans I just got from Old Navy this weekend (Yeah, they had a good sale).

At about midnight Egyptian Lover went on doing THE hottest mix of Afrika Bambaatta Planet Rock I’ve ever heard. Definitely got the crowd dancing, which even brought out some of the break dancers and pop lockers. The 80’s Electro Legend and Jamie Jupiter put on quite the show, even bustin’ out with a couple of dance moves them selves.

Definitely a great night.

School Dayz Nostalgia

I’m jealous. Okay, not really jealous but more reminiscent. August is here again and for many of all ages this means back to school. Don’t get me wrong post high school/college life is has been pretty good. I guess I’m in a bit of a nostalgic mood. The thrill of starting a school year always has been exciting to me. The month of August for the past 16 some years has always translated into “NEW”. New teachers, new people to meet, new friends, old ones to catch up with and new Clothes (This was one of my favorites!!!) The fresh smell of new box of crayons in elementary school sent chills through me.

Although I’ve moved on to the next stage in life, Marriage, Rent, Mortgage and I could go on and on, I look back at my high school days it wasn’t all that bad. But when I was in high school life seemed so dang tough. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to have my own room, lights, water, rent and food to be paid for by someone else again. Ha, ha maybe I’ll be able to relive school days through my children some day. Until then my advice to those school bound, is enjoy it while you can.

But then again all those tests, tests, tests in school got on my last nerve. And that is one aspect that I do not miss.

Does anyone out there have similar feelings about school?
Let me know about it! Share!

What Happened???

It seems TP has taken over. For those who don't know who TP is I'm talking about Tyler Perry. Don't get me wrong I love me some Tyler Perry Movies and Plays but I'm missing all the other black movie producers lately. It seems that when I was growing up there was an emence amount of black movies. I didn't get to see all of them at that time but later when I did I fell in love with the story lines of most of them.

Which brings me to my question that I posed to my fiance' the other day in one of our many random conversations. What the heck happened to all the black movie producers??? In the nineties and late eighties there was the Spike Lee movement with my favorite School Daze, Mo Better Blues, Malcom X and Do the Right Thing. Then there was the Kid and Play movement and the John Singleton movement with Boyz N the Hood & Poetic Justice even Baby Boy. I could go on and on, but I won't I'll assume you all get the point.

Lately it's just been the comic book turned movies that have taken over which I do enjoy, but what happened? Was that just a phase in the movie industry or do you think it's coming back? Maybe the high price of going to the movies has a bit to do with it?

What do you think? Should I put an APB out to all the classic movie makers to make a come back?
